Dental care in the United States is delivered mostly by private practices: a general or family dentist who handles exams, cleanings, fillings and crowns, and refers out anything that needs a specialist. Group practices and dental clinics put several dentists, hygienists and sometimes specialists under one roof, often with evening and Saturday hours. Most offices ask new patients for a comprehensive exam with X-rays before routine cleanings, which the American Dental Association recommends every six months. Prices are set by each practice, and most accept dental insurance (PPO plans more widely than HMO ones), CareCredit-style financing or an in-house membership plan for people without coverage. Emergency dental services take same-day patients for toothaches, broken teeth and abscesses, usually at a premium.
Hours are published for 5 days a week. Typical hours are 7 amβ3 pm. Note that it does not open on Saturday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Pittsburgh is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I donβt often take time to write reviews but my experience here was so awful. From the time I walked in the door I was treated poorly. The staff was rude and the dentist did not take the time to even introduce herself. I understand the practice is busy, but there should still be some bedside manner. This is especially true when it comes to caring for peopleβs children. I switched to a competitive practice in the area and I couldnβt be happier. Please do better!

I rarely write a negative review, however, we had such a horrible experience with this office that I feel the need to warn other families. We took our son to this office for a regular cleaning. The dental hygienist was not kid friendly whatsoever. She and the dentist were both in a hurry the entire time so we felt very rushed. The dentist flagged a few issues and claimed that putting my child under full sedation at a surgical center was the only answer. When I asked her to explain the problem in further detail and what the risks of full sedation are for a young child, she said βjust trust me.β We felt so uncomfortable that we got a second opinion from another pediatric dentist office (shout out to Valley View in Washington PA). It was there that we realized that some of their X-rays werenβt even taken correctly. The new dentist office was also able to take care of the problem easily in office with just laughing gas. My son did great and healed well due to their care. However, this officeβ Pediatric Southβ continued to follow up and threaten us if we didnβt move forward with their surgery (despite us telling them by phone twice as well as by email that my son was receiving treat

It seems reviews have gone down hill as time as gone by. Maybe this should have been a red flag. My child was seen at this office for 1.5 years, give or take. Our last appointment, things really took a turn. The staff seemed frazzled and I heard tid bits of conversation that seemed there was tension. The older dental hygienist at the McLaughlin location, was seeing my child. This is the second time she has worked with my child. I was not a fan the first time as her demeanor did not seem kid friendly (tone, easily frustrated, off comments to my child.) I chalked that one up to a bad day. The latest appointment, had me frustrated. She spoke to my child with a very frustrated tone. He asked her to not have the gloves near his lips but instead of talking through the situation, she told him, well they are there and you are lucky your mom helps you with your teeth. Mind you, my child is not even 5 yet. These comments continued along with increased frustrated breathing and eventually rolling her eyes at my child. She then said, yeah, we are not doing x-rays. He cannot even handle a cleaning. I then stepped in to floss his teeth as he gave me a look as the older hygienist became mo

Every worker I have encountered there so far is absolutely amazing! Made my son feel so comfortable with having to have teeth pulled and now he is not afraid to go back to have the other teeth pulled he has to have done!! I recommend anybody looking for a pediatric dentist to definitely give them a call!! I could not be happier!

I will never take my kids anywhere else. Dr. Uselton is hands down the best pediatric dentist there is , she's so patient and kind even when my kids are being a little difficult because they don't enjoy the dentist. The front office staff is really nice as well and all the hygienists are super sweet to my kids. They are the best office :)
